South Tipperary TD Tom Hayes (FG) has been apponted to the Constitutional Convention. His appointment was announced by Taoiseach Enda Kenny today at Dublin Castle.
Speaking on his appointment, Deputy Hayes explained that those participating in the convention will comprise of 33 other politicians, 66 members of the public and its chairperson.
The convention will initially be looking at whether the current presidential term of seven years should be reduced and whether the voting age should be lowered from 18 years of age.
Commenting, he said he believes those involved will have the real potential to influence how constitution is reformed and modernised.
