Independent local election candidate Liam Browne is calling on Tipperary County Council to install CCTV cameras as a matter of urgency at the new playground in Cashel, after the playground had to be closed for cleaning and disinfection after an incident on Saturday. The 2024 election candidate says the latest incident is just the culmination of a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour at the playground, that is putting parents off using the facility, which was recently renovated at great expense to the public in the town.

Council staff closed the playground on Saturday after being alerted and it was cleaned by specialists and re-opened on Monday.

Liam Browne says many parents have since contacted him to report incidents of intimidation, anti-social behaviour including break ins at cars in the area and parents being put off using the playground because of older teenagers using the playground as a hang out spot making it uncomfortable for small children.

Mr Browne is adamant that CCTV will mean the culprits will be under observation and can be identified and prosecuted if there is a recurrence. He also wishes to ensure the effort and investment to provide the playground is not wasted due to antisocial behaviour.
