Large Protest Expected In Cashel To Support Sean Meehan

A large protest is expected in Cashel this morning as the case of Sean Meehan is due before the courts again today.

The New Inn man is facing a possible prison sentence for failing to comply with a court order issued in December that he remove a mobile home structure from land he owns as it does not have planning permission.

The mobile home is surrounded with cladding to give a log cabin type appearance and is Mr Meehan’s residence.

Talks are understood to have taken place between Mr Meehan and council housing and planning officials in recent weeks and it is possible that the judge may vacate the order to remove the structure or adjourn the case to allow time for compliance with planning to be achieved.

Supporters of Mr Meehan say the protest set for 10am will be peaceful in nature to ensure that it does not harm Mr Meehan’s case. There has been huge public support for Mr Meehan with over 8,400 signatures on a petition on the Change.org platform and events held to raise funds to cover legal/planning costs.
