140 People Caught Drink/Drug Driving Over The Bank Holiday Weekend

As of yesterday 140 people were caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol on Ireland’s roads since Friday – Garda conducted a series of checkpoints across the country as part of a Bank Holiday Weekend enforcement operation. The operation concluded at 7am today, Tuesday April 2nd. 

The new leader of Fine Gael Simon Harris says he is concerned about the outcome of the Garda Roads Operation over the weekend and is to seek a meeting with the Road Safety Authority.  

Gardaí from the Clare/Tipperary Roads Policing Unit arrested a driver at a checkpoint on the M7 North Bound yesterday near Nenagh on suspicion of drug driving. The driver will now face a future court date.  

Inspector Padraig Sutton from the Roads Policing Unit in County Limerick says the higher number of road fatalities this year in comparison to last year is a real concern for officers  in roads policing and community engagement units. Inspector Sutton was speaking in Adare yesterday as he provided an update on the Garda Road Safety Enforcement operation over the weekend.
