Tipperary County Council Receive Roads Funding Allocation For 2024

Tipperary county council today received it’s Roads Funding Allocation for 2024 from the Department of Transport. The total of €35,772, 945 is slightly up on last year’s

€33, 532,399 however given the impact of inflation and roads damaged by poor weather the allocation is likely to be deemed inadequate by Councillors.

The funding covers 17 different categories of work with the largest portion, €17.7M allocated to Road Restoration Improvement,  €4.8M is allocated for Discretionary purposes and €4.5M is allocated to  Road Restoration Maintenance. The overall allocation is based on the km of road network in the county.

€3M is set aside for the road realignment works at Latteragh between Borrisoleigh and Nenagh.

Under specific named project allocations €300,000 is allocated for Bridges in Ballyporeen and €80,000 is set aside for works on the junction in Kilcommon. 10 other Bridges are to share €910,000 for Bridge Rehabilitation works. The highest sum in the Safety Improvement works category is €150,000 for the Ragg Village near Thurles with 9 other safety projects included in the overall total of  €600,000.  

€90,000 is to be provided for Climate Change Adaptation Works in the Kings Yard near Cahir. A total of €690,000 is allocated for maintenance of the old N8 and N7 roads.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill, is welcoming the allocation  as  part of a significant investment package of €658m nationwide aimed at restoring the road network.
