Tipperary Sinn Fein TD Martin Browne has been informed that the HSE is looking to purchase land in the Palmers Hill area of Cashel, where it is considering locating the long-awaited Community Nursing Unit(CNU).

The HSE owns land in Palmers Hill and since February 2023 it has been assessing the suitability of the site for a 60 bed CNU.

Deputy Browne says that the HSE is now in discussions around the purchase of additional land in the Palmers Hill area.

The land being considered for purchase in Palmers Hill will allow greater access for the Community Nursing Unit according to Deputy Browne.

The Unit was originally to be built at St Patrick’s Hospital but the HSE says the site there is not large enough to accommodate the unit and the associated staff and visitor access.

There has also been suggestions to locate the 60 beds in the former Our Lady’s hospital which was brought into use for 40 long term residents during the pandemic.

This location would have the advantage of being in the town centre.

The HSE expects to make a decision on the location and land purchase by the end of March.
