Tipperary town is set to benefit from funding allocated today by the Department of Rural and Community Development to tackle Dereliction and Vacancy in Rural Towns.

State funding has been used to purchase two currently vacant properties in the town and these will now be repurposed for community use.

It is understood that the State has purchased a three storey former public house and fast food outlet to convert into a multi-purpose community space.

This property is located on Main Street Tipperary town and was formerly known as Liz’s Bar with a fast food outlet located next door.

The second project in Tipperary town involves the State purchasing a former garage on the Galbally Road for use as a space for community & voluntary groups in line with the Tipperary Town Strategy and Action Plan.

The Tipperary town projects are the only projects in the county under this scheme.

Nationally a total of over €4.5 million to tackle Dereliction and Vacancy in Rural Towns is being allocated today to cover 24 projects across the country.

In other counties some of the projects include former Garda Stations, Schools, Post Offices, Parish Halls and Vacant Sites which will now be redeveloped for 21st Century use.
