Tipp Tidy Towns Pays Tribute To Young People Following National Award

Tipperary Tidy Towns is paying tribute to the young people involved after the Group emerged as National Winners of the Young Person’s Award at the results ceremony held at Croke Park, Dublin earlier today.

The award recognises the contributions of the students in the town – an anti-litter poster has been designed by students from St Anne’s Secondary School, a student from St Ailbes is the teenage rep for Tidy Towns on a new Social Inclusion Network being formed in Tipperary and a student from the Abbey School has completed a Bio Diversity Training Programme with Marian Clarke(co-ordinator Bio Diversity Group Tipperary town).

In addition, students from all of the primary schools in Tipperary town and Garryduallis NS in Pallasgreen participated in an Orchard Planting Programme.

Chairperson of Tipperary town Tidy Towns Paul O’Callaghan says it is great news for the group to accept their first award on behalf of the people of Tipperary town but especially the school students.  As a former school Principal Mr O’Callaghan says the young people are the future and it is vital to have them involved.

Mr O’ Callaghan also extended thanks to Siobhan Landers, Dinny Ryan and William Kinnane for attending the ceremony to accept the award from Minister Heather Humphreys.

Minister Humphreys also announced a special allocation of €1.5 million in funding to support the work of Tidy Towns groups in their continued efforts to make their towns and villages better places to live, work and visit. All groups who entered the competition in 2022 or 2023 will be eligible to apply for a grant of between €1,000 and €4,000. Pobal, who will be administering the grant on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development, will make contact will all eligible groups in due course.

The overall winner of the Tidy Towns Competition for 2023 is Abbeyleix,  County Laois.
