The Tipperary contribution to the Rugby World Championships in France is to further expand at the weekend when Kilruane man Ben Healy lines out for Scotland in their 3rd group match against Romania on Saturday.   The 24 year old former Munster player qualifies to play for the Scots through his grandmother, and made his debut for them in March of this year against Italy during the Six Nations.

Scotland have two games to play in the championship – against Romania on Saturday and then what may be the match that decides who progresses to the Quarter finals when they take on Ireland on October 7th.

Earlier this week Tipperary Cahir Cashel Councillor Michael Fitzgerald proposed a vote of congratulations to the Tipperary connections involved in the glorious atmosphere of Ireland’s win against reigning world champions South Africa.

Cllr Fitzgerald paid tribute to Alan Quinlan involved in TV coverage,  John Fogarty and Joe McCarthy(both from Cashel) for their contribution to the team on the coaching front and also remembered Brenda Hyland, Former Rose of Tralee winner from Cahir – her son Tadgh Beirne made an outstanding contribution on the pitch.
