Details of the Medal created for all participants completing the Dublin City Marathon have been released by the organisers. The medal pays Tribute to W.B. Yeats on the 100th Anniversary of his Nobel Prize for Literature.

A quote from the Dubliner, “There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t met yet,” is engraved on the front of the medal. Marathon organisers say this quote embodies the values of the event known worldwide as “the friendly marathon”.

The 2022 winners are expected to defend their titles  – Courtney McGuire from Clonmel AC and Martin Hoare from Celbridge AC will be hoping for a similar outcome this year.

The event is sponsored by Irish Life and will take place on October 29th. John Treacy is to be the official starter for the race to mark the 30th anniversary of his win in 1993. Mr Treacy won the Silver medal in the Marathon in 1984 at the Los Angeles Olympics.

The 2023 Irish Life Dublin Marathon will again incorporate the national championships, with Irish national medallists benefiting from prize funds and time bonuses for exceptional Irish athlete performances on the day.  Financial bursaries are also provided to enable elite marathon runners to pursue optimal training plans, including altitude camps and to travel and race overseas.
