New Sculpture By Fionn mac Cumhaill Is being Installed Near Cahir Castle

Visitors to Cahir have a new attraction as a sculpture of Fionn mac Cumhaill is being installed on an island near Cahir Castle. Fionn  is a hero figure in Irish mythology and features in many legends such as the Salmon of Wisdom and the construction of the Giant’s Causeway in Antrim – see further information  here.

This piece is sculpted by Philip Quinn & associates of Stonemad studio, Holycross. It was commissioned by Cahir Tidy Towns and part funded with grant aid from South Tipp Development committee.  Cllr Andy Moloney is also extending thanks also to Cahir Development Association for assistance from TÚS staff, members of Cahir Tidy Towns and  Mitchelstown Transport for their help in completing the project. Other agencies involved are Tipperary County Council, Inland Fisheries, National Parks and Wildlife Service(NPWS) and  Flynn Furney consultants.

The piece has a biodiversity friendly theme with nature in mind and is now being completed on site close to the Cahir Castle Car park.
