Labour Court Talks Aimed To Resolve Retained Firefighters Crisis End Without Resolution

Labour Court talks aimed at resolving what retained firefighters say is a crisis have ended without a resolution.

The discussions between both sides in the firefighters’ dispute lasted just under seven hours yesterday.

Both locally and nationally members of the service have suspended strike action to allow talks to take place pending a recommendation from the Labour Court.

Karan O’Loughlin, SIPTU division organiser, says the resolution to this dispute is going to be complicated.

Retained firefighters are calling for action to address the recruitment and retention crisis along with better pay and working terms are among the concerns being raised.

Locally Tipperary town fire station is short-staffed and cannot deploy the two vehicles at its disposal at the same time.
