Tipperary County Council is to hold an emergency meeting in Clonmel today to discuss the housing crisis in light of the lifting of the “no fault eviction ban” on April 1st.

The meeting was called after five councillors used a procedure to request the meeting.

The councillors want the Council Housing Department to outline the options for people facing eviction in the coming weeks and months.

117 Notices to Quit are to fall due in County Tipperary in the coming weeks.

The Council may be able to purchase the house under the Tenant in Situ Scheme if it deems it suitable and the tenant is eligible for social housing supports.

The first part of the meeting will be in public with the second part going into private session according to Cllr David Dunne Cathaoirleach of Carrick on Suir MD.

The use of private rented accommodation with the assistance of Housing Assistance Payment(HAP) is the Council’s primary option for those presenting as homeless.

There are 2 Homeless Prevention Officers in the Council who work in tandem with the HAP Placefinder Service to secure such accommodation.

There are still 30 single people and 6 families in emergency B&B accommodation according to the latest management report from Tipperary county Council.
