Former Tipperary Footballer manager and current manager of Offaly Liam Kearns has died suddenly, aged 61 years old.

The Kerry man also managed the Limerick and Laois senior football teams.

Mr Kearns led the Premier County to a 2016 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final.

He also enjoyed success with the Limericks under 21s prior to managing the senior inter county panel.

Mr Kearns played for the Kingdom at underage and senior level, winning an All-Ireland minor title in 1980.

Full statement from Offaly GAA County Board:

Offaly GAA is devastated to learn of the sudden passing this evening (Sunday, 12th March) of our senior football manager, Liam Kearns.

In his short period of time as manager of the senior footballers, Liam made a hugely positive impact and he was extremely well respected by everyone associated with Offaly GAA.

Liam was, of course, an experienced and successful inter-county and club manager and Offaly had quickly benefited from his thorough and meticulous approach to the role.

Offaly GAA extend deepest sympathies to his wife Angela, daughters Rachel and Laura, and other members of his family.

May he rest in peace.
