The HSE is to attend the Joint Oireachtas committee on Petitions today to explain the rationale for closing St Brigid’s Hospital in Carrick on Suir in 2020. This follows a petition submitted to the committee by the ‘Save St Brigid’s Hospital’ Group in Carrick-on-Suir.
Cathaoirleach of Carrick on Suir MD Cllr David Dunne will attend as will a team from the HSE led by Ms Kate Killeen White, Chief Officer of South East Community Healthcare. Campaigners want the hospital reopened to provide much-needed respite, convalescence and hospice services for people in Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny. Local people had fundraised to create the 3 hospice suites at the hospital.
The meeting will be held at 1.30pm today and can be viewed on the Oireachtas website.
