The Department of Housing has confirmed to Tipp Mid West Radio that Clonmel, Nenagh and Thurles are the only Tipperary towns eligible for Urban Regeneration Development Funding.
The fund is to be used to provide funding in respect of the Vacant Homes Action Plan announced yesterday.
The plan is supported by a €150M fund to support the purchase of currently vacant properties, residential or commercial, to be redeveloped to provide housing.
Only towns and cities with a minimum population of 10,000 or a minimum of 2,500 jobs are eligible for the URDF.
Towns and settlements with a population of less than 10,000 located outside the five city metropolitan areas can apply to the Rural Regeneration Development Fund.
The RRDF can provide funding for projects including those that seek to address building vacancy – it remains to be seen if additional funding will be put into the RRDF to encourage the development of homes in smaller towns by bringing vacant buildings back into use.
