Councillors at the Tipp Cahir Cashel MD considered recent retail closures in Tipperary town at today’s meeting.

Cllr Anne Marie Ryan asked the council to consider revisiting the provision of free parking in the town centre on a daily basis in a bid to make it attractive to visit the town centre.

District Administrator Anthony  Coleman says the pending closures are a huge challenge especially as the town has a high level of vacancy at present.

Mr Coleman says the council will work with all organisations to bring new retailers into the town.

Mr Coleman highlighted the need for a good retail mix and says the  Revitalisation Task Force recently provided a workshop for property owners or those interested in using government schemes such as Croi Conaithe to redevelop vacant properties.

The council currently provides 250 free parking spots in town and Mr Coleman suggested  a promotion  campaign to create greater awareness of these parking spaces.

Kingston’s Shoe store closed on January 21st and Wellworth’s has announced a closing down sale – both businesses are situated on the Main Street.
