Leo Varadkar Calls for Reduction of Planned Toll Price Increases

289

The Tánaiste is calling for a reduction or deferral of planned increases in road tolls in the New Year.

Leo Varadkar says he’s not happy with the increases and that they are coming at a really bad time when people are under pressure with the cost of living crisis.

It follows the announcement by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) that motorway toll charges across the country will rise to their maximum permitted price in the coming weeks.

The price hikes are connected to the current rate of inflation, which has increased by 8.6% between August 2021 and August 2022.

The tolls cannot be increased beyond this rate.

Car motorists in Tipperary using the M7 and M8 will need to pay 2 euro 10 cents from January compared to the current €2 at the toll booth.
