The Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service are urging people if they see a fire don’t delay contacting them.

The local service says dont wait for somebody else to call.

The fire brigade says its important to give clear details of location, size of the fire, wind direction, proximity to houses or forestry etc.

They urged people not to attempt to tackle fires alone or without training.

It follows the Department of Agriculture issuing a Condition Orange warning in respect of there being a high risk of forest fires.

The warning is in effect until Tuesday August 16th.

Members of the public intending to visit forests and other recreational sites are reminded to adhere to regulations regarding fire use.

Forest visitors should not use barbeques or open fires at any stage.

Vehicles must not be parked at site entrances or impede emergency service access to forest roads.

Fire risk is expected to peak over the coming weekend 13th/14th August.

Where fires occur, fire behaviour is likely to be influenced by light windspeeds in the 5-10kmh region.

All forest owners and managers are again advised to prepare for likely outbreaks of fire.

Fire lines, Fire Plans, fire suppression equipment should be reviewed and made ready and other relevant contingencies such as insurance, helicopter contracts etc., checked and confirmed.

Forest owners, farmers, rural dwellers and other countryside users are asked to be extremely vigilant regarding fire activity, to report any suspicious or illegal activity to the Gardai and to report all fires immediately to the Fire and Emergency Services via 112/999.
