Tipp Government TD Calls For Deferral Of Solid Fuel Regulations

Deputy Jackie Cahill has raised the new Solid Fuel regulations announced last September and due to come into effect next September with the Taoiseach.

The Thurles based TD says the proposed restrictions on the harvesting and sale of turf could not come at a more inappropriate time.

Deputy Cahill is raising the matter with all Fianna Fáil Cabinet Ministers to voice his strong opposition to this proposed policy.

Deputy Cahill says the Government is doing  good work in making historic levels of funding available for the retrofit of homes, with particular focus being aimed at those on lower incomes but that there is still much to be done over many years in this regard.

The Deputy says reducing the harvest of turf while providing no immediate, viable and cost effective alternative is simply not on.

The proposed regulations allow a person to harvest for their own use but not to supply others.
