“Mam” is the most popular form of address for mothers in Co. Tipperary.
It also the most popular in the country as a whole with 31% of adults using the term.
The study was complied by iReach for the Woman’s Way and Beko Mum of the Year awards.
Mum is used by 23% people, while 12 percent prefer Mom and another 12% use Mammy.
Surprisingly 4 percent of adults call their mother by their first name.
Meanwhile the researchers found three in five Irish adults are uncomfortable discussing sex with their mothers.
Almost one-third are awkward about talking about their relationships, and 18 per cent don’t like talking about finance.
