An international  retailer intends to open a new outlet in Thurles later this year.

JYSK Furniture store plans to open on Abbey road in the former Lidl Store in November or early December of this year.  The store will employ approximately 12 staff and recruitment is scheduled to start in August. The company currently operates 9 stores throughout Ireland employing 140 staff. The company is scheduled to open a new store in Ashbourne county Meath in August.

JYSK sells household furniture and furnishings including garden furniture – the company has over 3000 outlets globally and was founded in Denmark.  The word ‘JYSK’ has always been intentionally included in the company name. In Danish ‘JYSK’ designates anything or anybody from the Jutland Peninsula, and it is often associated with modesty, thoroughness and honesty – three values that  company founder Lars Larsen himself has always identified with.

Planning approval was recently issued for a change of use from  foodstore to retail wholesaler and for the installation of appropriate signage and parking spaces for bicycles. Lidl have constructed a new outlet including a Cafe in Clongour, Thurles on the site of the former Erin Foods facility.
