The population of Co Tipperary increased by half of one percent in the five years between the last two census.

The latest results to be published by the CSO reveal that in last April’s census, a population of 159,553 was noted in Co Tipperary.

The National figure for April 2016 was 4,761,865, an increase of 173,613 or 3.8% on April 2011.

Tipperary’s population in April 2016 was made up of 79,668 males and 79,885 females.

The average age of the Tipperary population in the same census was 38.6 years.

Nationally the average age of the population was 37.4.

The number of people divorced or separated in Tipperary was 8013 or 5%, just above the national average rate of 4.7%.
