The HSE plans to invest in two new nursing home facilities as part of its forthcoming capital projects.

According to Environment Minister Alan Kelly, as part of the plans, Cashel will see a new 100-bed unit for St Patrick’s Nursing Home and a new 50-bed unit is planned for St Conlan’s in Nenagh.

Minister Kelly said that overall bed capacity in Tipperary for both long and short stay units would increase significantly in the future.  He added that the Dean Maxwell facility in Roscrea will remain in place at its current capacity.

However, commenting afterward, Cashel councillor, Tom Wood maintains that the announcement does not mean additional beds for Cashel, as, he notes, the new build would have to replace the existing buildings due to the age of the structures.
