The implementation of new garda rosters does not represent the pressure that gardai in rural areas are under. That is according to South Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath.

New roster arrangements for gardai came into effect last April after being negotiated under the Croke Park Agreement.

Deputy McGrath has said that the new rosters do not reflect the challanges facing rural gardi who have much wider areas to cover than their urban collegues.

He added that at the very least if the gardai who are experiencing these problems cannot have extra personnel for some time, then the very least they should have is the appropriate level of transport that will enable them to cover the distances required.

He has called for the Justice Minister to re-examine the kind of impact  the new roster systems are having on the ground
