Independent TD Seamus Healy has said today that if the Minister for Social Protection will not reverse all cuts to the fuel allowance scheme then she should enable community welfare officers to provide some funding to those in need.

Deputy Healy unsuccessfully asked the Minister to reverse the cuts given the current spell of cold weather.  However he was unsuccessful in his bid.

Speaking to Tipperary Mid West Radio the South Tipperary TD said that evenas an interim measure, Minister Bruton should enable Community welfare Officers to issue home heating funds to offset to current rate of fuel poverty that exists at the moment
