South Tipperary Independant TD Mattie McGrath has claimed that the Governments proposals to shift responsibility for paying sick pay from the State to employers for the first four weeks of absence will have disastrous consequences in terms of job losses and job creation.

The South Tipperary TD who has organised a public meeting to raise awareness of the implications of such a proposal has pointed to a survey of Small and Medium Enterprises which shows that 93% of SME's expect job losses if the proposals are introduced.

Mr McGrath added that while a consultation process is currently underway with interested bodies, it is important that all stakeholders are made aware of the possible consequences of such proposals

A public meeting on the matter will be held on Fri 12th Oct at 8pm in Cahir House Hotel. Guest speakers will be present on the night and will include Mark Fielding, Chief Execuetive of the Irish Small and medium Enterprise association
