Fewer garda vehicles in Co Tipp.

There are 14 fewer garda vehicles in Co. Tipperary than there were in 2012, according to figures obtained by Deputy Michael Lowry.

The figures, provided by the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter reveal that Tipperary and Templemore have lost one vehicle each, Cahir an Clonmel have lost two vehicles each, Nenagh is down by three while Thurles has lost five.

In all, there were 45 garda vehicles in the Division of Tipperary this year, compared to 59 in 2010.

Responding to the figures Deputy Lowry says it shows that cutbacks are resulting in the force being inadequately resourced, and the ability of garda to police rural areas is being undermined.

He went on to say that when the loss of these vehicles is combined with the impending closure of a further 5 stations and the deconstruction of the Templemore district, a crisis with regard to policing in Tipperary is emerging.
