Storm Isha Set To Hit Co. Tipp Tomorrow

2670

County Tipperary is bracing itself for strong gusts as Storm Isha is set to hit tomorrow.

The Premier County will be under a Status Yellow Wind warning from 11am.

Met Eireann says this weather alert will bring strong and gusty southwest winds with heavy rain at times along with difficult travelling conditions•, debris, and loose objects displaced.

The county is being upgraded to Status Orange wind warning from 5pm Sunday evening until 2am on Monday.

The county returns to a yellow Status wind warning until 4am Monday morning.

Motorists are advised that this warning will lead to very difficult travelling conditions, with a risk of fallen trees also.

Residents across the county are advised that the weather warning could lead to damaged power lines with electricity outages possible.

The Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met this afternoon to assess the situation and to ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place in advance of this severe weather event all emergency repair crews and contractors will be on standby and ready to deal with any emergencies.

The Council wishes to advise the public to prepare for power outages. Think of elderly neighbours that may need support if there are any outages. The greatest threat is likely from fallen trees and flying debris.

Householders urged to take precautions by securing all outdoor furniture and leisure items such as trampolines and goal posts.

Motorists are advised not to make any unnecessary journeys during the orange events and should exercise extreme caution because of the danger posed by localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions/disruption, structural damage, falling trees.

The council urges people to pay attention to weather bulletins and updates from the Council.

The position will continue to be monitored by the Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team.

Road Closure updates will be posted to the Council’s website and social media sites – Facebook/Twitter/MapAlerter.
