The 77th Annual Bansha Agricultural and Industrial Show is scheduled for August 20th, as it maintains the tradition of holding the show on a Wednesday encouraging people to make it a special day by briefly pausing work to take part in the daytime community event.
The date of August 20th will also feature the final of the Tipperary Peace Convention Song and Poetry Contests for 2025 which will be held in Templeneiry Church in Bansha on the evening of August 20th in conjunction with the Darby Ryan International Poetry Competition 2025. The six finalists for the Tipperary Peace Convention Song and Poetry contests have been selected. Entries for the Darby Ryan International Poetry Contest can be submitted until July 31st. The theme must be one of – Community, Satire, Tipperary or Ireland.
Darby Ryan, poet, songwriter and patriot was born in Ashgrove, Bansha in 1777. The Darby Ryan International Poetry Contest was inaugurated this year by US based John Grogan and Claire Grogan Williams, descendants of the late Darby Ryan.
Entries for the Darby Ryan International Poetry contest can be made by the dedicated website https://darbyryanpoetrycontest.ie. There is no entry fee and there are cash prizes for 1st to 3rd placed poems. Darby Ryan, who died in 1855, is buried in the grounds of Templeneiry church Bansha.
