The “Dundrum Says No” protest group is raising fresh concerns about environmental safety issues at the Dundrum House Hotel Complex.

The group has made a complaint to the National Environmental Complaints Line (case reference number 12479), the Environmental Protection Agency, the Health & Safety Authority and to Tipperary County Council as well as informing public representatives in respect of what is claims is “material containing asbestos” and what it calls “toxic fridges” being buried on lands close to the Kilmore houses.

The group is calling for a thorough investigation.

The material is said to have come from the ballroom ceiling at the Hotel which was damaged by a fire in 2015.

Four former employees, who wish to remain anonymous, came forward to advise that, following this fire and subsequent sale of the hotel, staff were instructed by the operator to demolish and dispose of what remained of the ballroom.

The group says the material was placed in two alleged dumps on land adjacent to the Multeen River, which passes through the grounds of the complex and is part of the Lower River Suir Special Area of Conservation. In addition, the group are raising concerns that the surrounding buildings were not decontaminated and treated for Asbestos by professionals at the time.

The group is also sharing that one of the four members of staff who came forward with this disclosure passed away earlier this year due to cancer.

The complex at Dundrum House Hotel which includes the vacant Manor House, a Hotel Block extension, two clusters of houses and a golf course/driving range with bar and restaurant is currently the subject of a legal dispute as to who holds the beneficial ownership, the property has also been notified by Tipperary Planning Authority that it has identified 6 issues of unauthorised development and the Department of Justice is reviewing a two year contract it  issued in respect of the property earlier this year to provide accommodation for 277 people as part of the International Protection Service.
