Fate Of Tipperary Chamber Of Commerce Remains Unclear As EGM Is Announced For This Week

The fate of Tipperary Chamber of Commerce, the Business representative group in Tipperary town, remains unclear. The Chamber Committee that were elected in 2020 have not held an AGM since then and returns to the Companies Office are overdue.

Four members of the 7-person committee left in 2023 – one on health grounds.

Since then the 3 remaining officers have indicated that they wanted to provide audited accounts for each year of their stewardship and step down. It now seems that there is a further split as one of the 3 has invited a number of business owners in the town to an EGM in the Excel Centre on Thursday evening this week. The two remaining committee members are objecting to this EGM on the grounds that it has not been convened in accordance with the Companies Act 2014 or best governance practices.

Tipp Mid West Radio received an unsigned release from the Chambers email account yesterday objecting to the EGM due to a lack of 21 days’ notice, a lack of Agenda for the meeting, failing to notify the Company Secretary and the second remaining committee member and on grounds of what it calls “Inappropriate Public Invitations” as it claims invitations to the EGM were extended to Tipperary Town businesses generally who may not be entitled to attend or vote at an EGM of Tipperary Chamber of Commerce CLG(company limited by guarantee).

The Chamber member calling the meeting issued the invitation on June 5th and considers that adequate and proper notice has been given.

Tipp Mid West Radio understands that approximately 45 business owners were invited to the EGM on Thursday June 26th at 7pm in the Excel Centre and that all accounts have been finalised and audited.

The statement on behalf of the two committee members says “they remain committed to working constructively and in good faith as Volunteers to restore Tipperary Chamber of Commerce C.L.G ‘s good name. “
