A small group from Tipperary town including Cllr Anne Marie Ryan participated in a march in Cork on Saturday calling for urgent Government action to end homelessness and the housing crisis.

The rally, under the umbrella of the Raise the Roof campaign is part of a national campaign to drive a change in direction in the Governments Housing Policy

The national campaign is organised by a coalition of trade unions and Opposition political parties and includes SIPTU, Fórsa, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation and the Community Action Tenants Union.

TDs and councillors from Sinn Féín, the Green Party, the Labour Party and the Social Democrats marched as did members of People Before Profit, the Socialist Party, the Irish Traveller Movement and Derelict Ireland. In addition to regional marches the group are calling on the public to sign a petition on a dedicated website raise the roof.ie that calls on the Government to address supply and affordability, enable local councils to build at scale, remove tax breaks for investors, bring derelict homes back into use and to create a right to housing.
