Cllr Roger Kennedy Appointed Cathaoirleach Of The Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD

Cllr Roger Kennedy is the new Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD following today’s AGM.

The experienced Fianna Fáil councillor and former Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council takes over from Cllr John Crosse, Fine Gael. Cllr Marie Murphy, Fine Gael, now working as a Parliamentary Assistant  on a part time basis 3 days a week with  Deputy Michael Murphy is to be Leas Cathaoirleach. The Fine Gael Fianna Councillors hold  5 of the 9 seats in the district and use the majority to retain the Cathaoirleach’s position – there was no vote on the appointment today.

Tipperary CEO Sinead Carr attended the AGM and wished the new team well describing them as strong and experienced.

Cllr Declan Burgess, from Cashel, aged 30, will end his term as Cathaoirleach on Friday when Halla na Feile hosts the AGM of Tipperary County Council. It is expected that a Fianna Fail councillor will take over as Cathaoirleach under the terms of the Fine Gael, Fianna Fail, Labour pact as between them they control a majority on the Plenary Council.
