A soccer tournament in memory the late Ned Greene will be held at Canon Hayes Recreation Centre, Tipperary town, on Saturday June 21st. Mr Green died in May 2021.
The Greene family supports the tournament as it gives the community an opportunity to gather, remember Ned and help others. In particular, the family will assist with the refreshments marquee.
This is the fourth year of the tournament in memory of the former soccer coach who was well regarded as a coach and a popular member of the community but especially the soccer fraternity in the Munster region working with clubs in Tipperary, Limerick and Clare.
The funds raised on the day will be shared between C-Saw Mental health service and the Tipperary town Special Olympics Club. The tournament of ten men’s teams filled quickly and these matches will begin at 10am. A children’s competition with four teams will take place once the group matches in the men’s competition are completed. This will be followed by the knock stages which are expected to be completed by 2.30pm. A raffle will also be held on the day and donations will also be gratefully received
This tournament is being organised this year by Marcus Godfrey(087 1602610) with Paddy O’Dwyer running the children’s event. One of the two co-founders Donnacha O’Grady will be attending this but unfortunately the other co-founder Paddy Fitzgerald cannot attend this year.
