A public meeting is to be held in Cashel this evening about the operation of St Cormac’s Cemetery. The meeting is being organised by the Cashel Fianna Fail Cumann and will be held in the Spafield Family Resource Centre beginning at 7.30pm. The organisers say all are welcome to attend.

The meeting agenda is broad  and will include issues such as the approach roads, pedestrian safety, parking, anti-social behaviour in the cemetery,  the right to purchase a grave in the Cemetery and regulations governing headstones.

The Tipperary Rural Traveller Project is encouraging members of the travelling community to attend the meeting. The community organisation works to support and represent members of the traveller community living in county Tipperary.

Burial grounds are managed by Tipperary County Council and the council is considering creating a special area in the cemetery for head stones that are larger than those allowed under the current byelaws. In addition Tipperary County Council is seeking to find additional land in the Cashel area to provide a burial ground before the space in St Cormac’s is fully used.
