Tipperary councillors are to make their final individual proposals today for the County Tipperary Submission in respect of the National Development Plan Review. The council executive will then try to include all of the issues in the final draft which must be submitted to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform by June 26th. The public can also make submissions until June 26th at this link here. Minister Jack Chambers is to publish the revised national Development Plan in July. The plan will set out the list of items that will be funded between 2025 and 2035 and will include such projects as roads, schools, water, energy and transport infrastructure. The Government has indicated that capital spending in the next decade is to focus on two priorities – delivering 300,000 new homes and creating an operating environment that is competitive for business.
The council’s draft submission includes specific projects for investment as follows –
Clonmel Regeneration, Nenagh’s Sustainable Energy Centre of Ireland & Historical and Cultural Quarter, the Redevelopment of the Munster Hotel Thurles, upgrade to Clonmel Library, Regional Sports Campus at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), the N24 Road Project, the Thurles By-Pass, the Thurles Inner Relief Road, Development of Limerick Junction Rail and Freight Interchange, Lisbunny Link Road, Nenagh, Suir Blueway, UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rock of Cashel, Interpretative Centre, Cashel, National BioEconomy Centre, Lisheen & the Circular Economy, Siga Hydro, Silvermines, Eastern and Midlands Water Supply Project(Shannon Pipeline), Water and Wastewater services in Tipperary town and upgrades to Nenagh’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
In addition Tipperary county Council’s draft submission asks for extra funding for the purchase and repair of derelict properties in smaller towns and villages, schemes to incentivise private and affordable housing construction, extra funding for retrofits, funds to tackle estates with developer provided infrastructure, flood defences, landfill remediation, libraries and burial grounds, extra funding for the Government schemes such as the Rural Regeneration Fund, Town and Village Renewal, Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure and the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund.
