The Rock of Cashel will light up in blue to mark Aphasia Awareness Month on Sunday June 15th as blue is the colour associated with aphasia.
Aphasia is a language disorder caused by damage in a specific area of the brain that controls language expression and comprehension. Aphasia leaves a person unable to communicate effectively with others. Most people develop aphasia as a result of a stroke.
Stroke survivor and advocate, Martin Quinn, says that aphasia “can be considered a hidden disability meaning it is important to bring it into the light, as we are doing with the light-up campaign.”Other places to light up in blue in support of aphasia include; The GPO (General Post Office Dublin), Cork City Hall, City Hall Galway, 35 The Mall, Waterford City and Devonshire Bridge, Dungarvan, Co.
