Cllr Browne Continues To Press For Improved Enforcement Of Bye Laws At Local Cemeteries

Cashel based Councillor Liam Browne is to continue to press for improved enforcement of bye laws at local Cemeteries and for changes to the Bye laws.

The matter was discussed at last Month’s Municipal District meeting where the Council indicated it intends to create a special section for oversized headstones in St Cormac’s after a site inspection with the 3 Cashel based councillors.

Cllr Liam Browne is also seeking to change the Bye Laws that govern burial grounds and says this is on the Agenda for Tipperary Councils Strategic Policy Committee this week.

The Independent Councillor says he wants to make St Cormac’s Cemetery a “better, safer, more accessible, friendlier and more peaceful place for everyone that uses it.”

New Signage has now been installed at the Cormac’s Cemetery outlining the rules in place as regards digging graves, installing headstones and general maintenance at the Cemetery.

Cllr Browne says this sign won’t fix the problems people have, but is a first step as he gives Tipperary County Council some acknowledgement and credit for taking that first step.

In the longer term if extra maintenance staff or CCTV coverage is necessary at the Cemetery the Councillor commits to seek a budget allocation for such measures.
