A locally made short film is to compete in the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film covers the story of the death of Bridget Cleary in Tipperary in 1895. Her husband Michael was convicted of her murder after he burned her to death in their home near Drangan claiming that his wife had been replaced by a changeling.
Kilkenny based Diceman Productions filmed Bridget based on a script by Brian Clancy and Ann Williamson and featuring the Fionn MacCumhaill Players. Cahir Historical society is hosting two screenings of the film which is approximately 40 minutes in duration to be followed by a Question and Answer session with the script writers on Friday evening in Cahir Castle.

Michael Cleary was imprisoned for 15 years for his wife’s murder and later moved to Liverpool and Canada. The couple who were married for 8 years did not have any children.
