A Public Meeting to discuss the operation of Cormac’s Cemetery, Cashel has been organised for Wednesday 18 June at 7:30pm in Spafield Resource Centre, by Cashel Fianna Fáil.
The meeting comes after Tipperary County Council revealed that it intends to create a special area within the Cemetery for headstones that are larger than the current size allowed under the bye laws. Cashel Fianna Fáil says the meeting will be a great opportunity for the community to discuss what it calls “this vitally important and overlooked area of our community.”
Issues on the agenda to be discussed include: Parking & access, speed limit from roundabout to 50km sign, pedestrian crossing & traffic calming measures, footpaths & pathways around headstones, general maintenance, potential for columbarium wall to store ashes of those cremated, a memorial garden, restriction on burial plots and anti-social behaviour.
The meeting on June 18th will be chaired by Cashel Fianna Fáil Chairperson Paudie Taylor & Vice-Chairperson Collette Roche. Representatives from Tipperary County Council, as well as local Councillors from the Cashel area, have been invited to attend. Paudie Taylor says he hopes to see “real action taken in respect of the issues identified on the night in conjunction with local representatives, regardless of political differences, for the betterment of the people of Cashel and the surrounding areas who have loved ones buried in Cormac’s Cemetery.”
