Eight Drivers Detected Driving Under The Influence Of Drink &/Or Drugs Over The Bank Holiday Weekend

Eight drivers have been detected driving under the influence of Drink and or drugs over the last two days in County Tipperary.

Tipperary Gardaí say too many people continue to take risks and drive under the influence and are calling on the public to call out such behaviour adding that everyone is responsible for road safety

Tipperary Divisional Roads Policing Unit carrying out Bank Holiday checkpoints and patrols, arrested 4 motorists in the Thurles District on suspicion of Drink driving on Sunday June 1st.

One motorist arrested in Templemore was found to be serving a 12 year Disqualification, the motorist was charged to appear in court for the latest offence. Another was arrested in Thurles Town at a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint after failing a roadside alcohol test and was also found to be uninsured.

The vehicles involved were seized and court proceedings have been commenced.

Nationally, a total of  167 arrests for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant were made over the period from 7am Thursday May 29th  to 7am today. During this period, there was one fatality due to a Road Traffic Collision roads and fourteen serious collisions resulting in fourteen individuals sustaining severe and life-threatening injuries
