€18.6m has been claimed in Tipperary since the Help to Buy Scheme was introduced in 2017 according to Deputy Michael Murphy.
Deputy Michael Murphy says the scheme has had a positive impact in helping 913 applicants in Tipperary to purchase a home. The scheme is aimed at first-time buyers to help buy a newly built house or apartment or self-build a new home.
The scheme provides up to €30,000 to be used towards the homeowner’s deposit. It gives a refund of the income tax and Deposit Interest Retention Tax (DIRT) a person may have paid in Ireland for the 4 years before the year you apply.
42 applications have been made to the first quarter of 2025 with almost 55,000 individuals or couples across the country availing of the scheme since in 2017.
The government is under increasing pressure to improve housing supply and is to publish a new Housing Plan in July. In addition the Government is to open a public consultation next month in respect of modular homes in back gardens with the intention of publishing regulations for such housing before the end of the year.
