The latest designs for the N24 road upgrade between Cahir and Oola are on display at the Great National Hotel in Ballykisteen today. The project team are urging those impacted or interested in the project to view the latest designs and to discuss the implications especially for property owners. The current design would see 4 homes (between Limerick Junction and the Eastern Edge of Tipperary town) being demolished to build the road component. The designers are anxious to accommodate each property owner affected within the limitations of the project.

The project team from the Mid West Road Design Office and ARUP Consultants will be at Ballykisteen today until 8pm starting at 10am – the team are also expecting to meet with interested parties in person in Tipperary town over the coming weeks. Online or telephone meetings can be booked with a member of the project team through the online booking facility on https://n24cahirlimerick.ie/or by telephoning 061 951000 or sending an email to [email protected].

In addition the plans are on display in the Council office Tipperary town, Cahir and Cappamore libraries and on the project website www.n24cahirlimerick.ie and the county council website www.tipperarycoco.ie.  No paper copies of the plans are being distributed but all details can be printed from the project website.

The project will By Pass Oola, Monard, Limerick Junction, Tipperary Town and Bansha. Limerick Junction will be particularly impacted as the existing N24 road will be closed on the Tipperary town side of the Railway Bridge. Effectively traffic entering Limerick Junction will do so from a new junction on the west of the village and only Irish Rail staff and one existing homeowner will be using the bridge – an emergency turnaround point will be created on the existing N24.  However, a link to the new road will be constructed – this will only be opened for use in the event of an emergency closure of the new road. Access to the new road will only be available at the planned points numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11 on the map. The existing N24 will likely be regraded to a Regional Road when the project is completed.

Construction is expected to take three years but the start date is dependent on planning and procurement processes being completed. The project is due to be submitted to An Bord Pleanála in 2027. The project includes 34 km of roads, 16km of active travel routes, 2.5km of new streets in Tipperary town, crossings over the rail way line, a 100m bridge over the River Suir(including Flood plain) a bridge over the River Arra(near Bansha) and 10 new roundabouts.
