Tipperary Sinn Fein Councillors are voicing support and solidarity for School Secretaries and Caretakers.
Cllr David Dunne notes that thousands of school secretaries and caretakers are currently being balloted for indefinite industrial action by their trade union, FORSA as they are currently denied access to the public service pension scheme despite being directly employed by the Department of Education. The Carrick on Suir based Councillor describes the situation as “unfair.”
Party colleague Cllr Anne Marie Ryan describes school secretaries and caretakers as “vital workers, the heartbeat of the school system and a key part of school life.
The Sinn Fein position is that school secretaries and caretakers deserve the same public sector worker status as the teachers and SNAs they work alongside every day and deserve pension parity.
Both Sinn Fein Cllrs are urging members of the public to support the campaign by signing the FORSA pledge online at Forsa.ie
