Tipperary Family Carers are being encouraged to register for free Alzheimer Society of Ireland(ASI) Training Ahead of Carers Week – June 9th to 15th.
The training is aimed at those caring for or supporting a family member, friend, or neighbour living with dementia. With an estimated 2,457 people living with dementia in Tipperary – and 64,000 across Ireland – the need for accessible, high-quality training has never been greater according to the Society. More than 180,000 people in Ireland are currently or have previously cared for someone with dementia.
The ASI will offer courses in multiple locations nationwide, with additional dates to be announced in the coming months – if demand for in person training exists in county Tipperary a training opportunity could be put in place in late 2025 or early 2026. Course will be delivered in person in some locations and for those who prefer to learn from home, the “Home-Based Care: Home-Based Education” online course begins 7 July and is open nationwide. The course aims to help carers with practical skills, including understanding dementia progression, improving communication, and accessing vital information. Participants will also benefit from emotional and peer support. Contact the Alzheimer Society by calling 1 800 341 341 or use the registration form available at this link here. The organisations website also offers a comprehensive listing of services available in each county including county Tipperary to support those caring for someone with dementia – an umbrella term for a number of conditions that can cause changes in how the brain operates.
