The Tipperary Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is to benefit from funds raised during the visit of steam engines over the next two days under the auspices of the Irish Steam Engine Owners Association.
The engines are expected to arrive in Cashel this afternoon between 3pm and 6pm having left Urlingford this morning. The Engines will stop near SuperValu in Cashel this evening and spend the night at Cashel Mart.
The engines will depart Cashel at 10am on Wednesday morning and travel via New Inn for a stop at approximately 11.30am tomorrow and some of the engines will visit Cahir at approximately 2pm – the slower vehicles intend to travel via the Cahir By Pass to make up time. The children in New Inn National School are to raise funds for the IWA by holding a “No Uniform Day” on Wednesday.
Many of the engines are over one hundred years old including a Marshall traction engine built in 1908, a Clayton & Shuttleworth Road Locomotive built in 1915, and a Fowler Ten Ton Roller built in 1929.
Volunteers from the IWA will be holding bucket collections along the route and will also have a tap and pay option for those wanting to donate. The engines will arrive in Mitchelstown at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday evening and will continue to Rathcormack on Thursday and Glanmire near Cork City on Friday.
