Uisce Eireann is working on repairing a burst water mains which is causing supply disruption to Deerpark, Dundrum and surrounding areas
Works are scheduled to take place from 9am until 3pm today with normal supply expected to be restored 3 – 4 hours after the estimated time for the completion of repairs
Independent Cllr John O’Heney is calling on Uisce Eireann (Irish Water) to undertake a comprehensive and urgent review of the water infrastructure across many parts of South Tipperary, citing ongoing disruptions, repeated outages, and growing public frustration.
Communities across West and South Tipperary have had to endure poor water quality, unreliable supply, and a lack of clear communication from Uisce Eireann according to Cllr O’Heney. The call comes following a week of severe disruption with schools, business and homes impacted by the outages. In addition to the detailed assessment of the existing infrastructure the Councillor wants greater transparency and direct engagement with both the public and elected representatives.
In 2014 the government set up Irish Water, now known as Uisce Eireann, and intends that the company will be a stand-alone water services utility outside the control of local councils. Cllr O’Heney wants Uisce Eireann to meet local representatives to provide details about the current state of the infrastructure and to publish a clear action plan with timelines for improvements.
The towns of Clonmel and Carrick on Suir are also suffering water supply disruption with Uisce Eireann hoping to have the latest burst pipe in Carrick on Suir repaired by 5pm today and Clonmel supply restored by noon.
