The 50 hour protest outside Leinster House, Dublin, by Tipperary teenager Cara Darmody is to continue today. The protest began at 10am yesterday.

The Ardfinnan based advocate for services for children with disabilities is to meet with the Taoiseach Micheal Martin at 9am today and intends to resume her protest afterwards.

Over a period of five hours in the Dáil yesterday TDs made statements about the Assessment of Need service and debated a motion put forward by all of the opposition parties calling for reform of the service. The Government accepted the motion.

Several TDs expressed concern for Cara sleeping outside the Dáil and many praised her courage and campaign for change. Cara is accompanied by her father Mark Darmody.

Over 15,000 children are currently on waiting lists for an Assessment of Needs including 241 in county Tipperary.
