Government funding of €2.9M was announced today for Biodiversity Projects delivered by Councils across the country.

Tipperary County Council secured a total of €93,800 for 5 projects. The funding is provided from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Local Biodiversity Action Fund (LBAF) in 2025.

The projects put forward by Tipperary County Council are in respect of Surveys and Training and Awareness for Council Staff.  €7,225 is earmarked for training and awareness events.

A survey of Nightjar birds receives €13,864.34, a survey of Wetlands secures €26,138, a Hedgerow survey is allocated €27,000 and a survey of the Ecological  and Biodiversity  Management of Council owned lands is awarded €19,550.

All five of the projects support the implementation of the 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan.  Almost €11M has been distributed by the Fund since it was established in 2018 to assist local authorities in the implementation of actions in support of biodiversity.

Minister for Housing, Heritage and Local Government James Browne says “Local authorities are playing an essential role in protecting our biodiversity and the Local Biodiversity Action Plan recognises that role.”
